World History Honors, Period 3

Course Description

7th grade world history will focus on social, cultural, political, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas from the fall of the Roman Empire through early modern times, approximately A.D. 500 through the 1700s. Students will study the history and geography of great civilizations that developed throughout the world during this time period. They will examine the growing economic interaction among civilizations, as well as the exchange of ideas, beliefs, culture, technologies, and commodities. They will learn about the resulting growth of Enlightenment philosophy and concepts such as reason and authority, the natural rights of human beings, and experimentalism in science. Finally, students will assess the political forces that arose from the Enlightenment, particularly the rise of democratic ideas, and the continuing influence of these ideas in the world today.

The Honors section of this course will cover the same topics as the regular section. The Honors section, however, will involve less emphasis on practice and repetition and a greater emphasis on depth, complexity, application, and demonstrating learning in novel and creative ways.
