Today in class we revisited your IB reflections. Make sure you made the improvements we discussed in class. Some of you received one on one help from both peers and myself I expect to see those improvements on your reflections tomorrow. Please be prepared to show me your reflections tomorrow with the pictures of the project you chose. If you are unsure if you met the requirements of the assignment go a head and email your reflection and I will offer you feed back. I will not be able to offer this feedback until about 5:30 since I will be at the district until then. 
 
Reading- Please remember that the last day for AR points is on Tuesday. You should have 40 points or follow the contract guidelines I have laid out with you. If you are unsure about what we have discussed Please e-mail me. Some of you just have to read two books for the trimester so work towards that please you know who you are. 
 
Play you worked with your classmates on the play today. Please do what your team members assigned you. Remember you preform on Wednesday.
 
Keynotes: are due tomorrow you will put them into the hand in folder. You are working with a team so do what they have given you. You will meet for one more hour with your team in class. During that time you should only be adding more detailed sentences, making final touches, and copying and pasting all of your separate slides into just one keynote. I should only see seven keynotes in the hand in folder. One keynote per team.
 
If we resolve the tech issue with the projector you will be showing your iMovies and they will be graded as you show them to the class. If we cannot resolve the issue we may have to by pass your movie premier and I will have to watch them without you.

Remember to keep up with AR Last day for testing is May 27th. This is for both honor roll and students who are aiming towards earning their AR points for this final trimester. Your goal is to earn at least 40 points. That is ten less points than previous trimesters.

Read Freak the Mighty chapter 7 and 8 write a paragraph where you connect with one of the characters in the story. Remember to make your paragraph detailed and use evidence from the text to support your information and the discussion we had in class. 
Science
CST booklets should be turned in on Monday. On Monday I will collect your CST brainpop scores. You are only responsible for the assigned ones from class. This means that you weren't expected to finish them all.
You have a take home science test. You can use your notes, textbook, brainpop video, watch bill nye chemical reaction video below if you need to as well. 
 
Lastly, if you want to get a head start. Start looking for a chemical reaction around you. You will create a flow map on Monday. It will help you to look up and research an everyday chemical reaction and learn the process of how it changes. 
 
Social studies:State Float project. Continue to work towards the completion of your project. Your first float picture is due on Monday. It should depict how much work you have invested on your float.

2) Freak the mighty- Your rant and rave paragraphs and the paragraph you will read with feeling, intonation, this is a chance to show how you have grown as a reader this school year.
3) Science CST booklet- practice 4. Remember let's work towards improvement. You are to take this as if it was a test. So you cannot get any help from anyone once you start. You can however review concepts before answering questions. 
4) State Float Project- You should be working towards the progress of your projects. Remember that you are to manage your free time in class to work on these projects. So stay focused and on task every minute counts and will help you meet your deadline. You are now finishing up week two so you should have made progress on your brochure and imovie. 
5) Tomorrow is Friday your element poster should be done by tomorrow.

Follow Field trip procedure:
1. Tomorrow you will not be allowed to have a backpack with you. No laptop bags. No bags of any kind. Parents are not allowed to follow. If you are late you will be left behind. 
2. You will only be allowed to have a sack lunch with you and a camera provided it is small. Bring a lead pencil. We will not be going to the gift shop so money is not required for this trip. You must wear RED!!!! Please remember the conversation we had in class.

Atom diagram due tomorrow remember to follow all the parts outlined in your rubric. In addition, make sure its organized and neat use the examples to help you. 
 
Social Studies: You will begin the design of your float on paper. Your blue print will be submitted for approval on 4/14. You must use the correct colors and describe what materials you will use for each piece that you design. Make sure to keep a detailed list of materials and where you will go to purchase or find the items you need. It will benefit you to first research your state and find information before starting your design. 
 
Remember your bag in case you left it at home. 
 
Math- Continue with the text book pages 467 all and 468 4-10. Number 11 and 12. You should have copied off the board.

Spring Break
Please take the time to relax and enjoy your spring break. However if you would like to get a head start on some work or finish up some work here are some ideas.
 
1) research your state, locate books about it, flyers, gather materials you could use for your float. Pages to help guide you through this process will be posted here so check back.
 
2) Atom Diagram. You have time to complete your digital atom diagram in class on Monday when we return, however you work on it as well.
 
3) Science: State test is right around the corner so please read your science interactive reader and watch bill nye videos on concepts we have covered in science or are on your CST Brainpop list.

Writing:

Tomorrow in class you will write a Persuasive essay. The prompt is: Based on new research suggesting that male and female students learn differently, some schools boards are considering creating separate schools for boys and girls. Do you think establish separate schools is a good idea? Write a multi-pargraph essay in which you persuade the Board of Education to agree with your position on this issue. Be sure to include specific details and examples to support your argument, the counterargument and rebuttal. 
 

For tonight: 

watch the two videos bellow and read the two articles. create a pros and cons tree map and a flow map for your essay. Do not write the essay. Make sure you include some information from the videos and articles as well as your own thoughts on both maps. If you need it, you can complete the flee map as well. You will be expected to come into class with your tree map and flow map completed with evidence to support your position. Remember to cite your source when you use evidence.

ELA-Checkpoint Practice "The Boy who cried Wolf" Answer the writing prompt. The file should have been downloaded onto your laptop and you should made  significant   progress since you had 25 mins in class to read and write your paragraph using the template I gave you from the Ant and the Grasshopper.

Spelling- You should have finished the sentences for words 6-10
 
Writing- Double check your draft of Reace's Letter it should be at least 12 sentences in length with details. Remember only positive comments are allowed. These letters are meant to inspire and make the citizen of the week feel valued as a family member. 
 
Math- You have to complete the problems that you should have copied off the Document camera. You can complete the problems in one of three ways. Using an algorithm, explaining your mental math in paragraph form, or using a picture. 
 
Science-  You have 3.1 Worksheets to complete. Don't forget to start on your Human Body videos. You should have download the video list off of our main page. Please remember your IMovie Research movie is due on Jan 17th 2014. If you want feedback from me before the due date you need to have it done no later than Wednesday of next week. 
 
Social Studies- Review of Lesson 6.1 and 6.2 complete the worksheet. 
Don't forget that starting January 21st we begin our study of the nations states and capitals.

Reading:

*Reading Log-

Read for a minimum of 30 mins = 30 pages of your book. Remember you should be ready to take your next AR test by Monday. At this point you should have 10-12 points. By next Monday you should have 12-15 points. 

* The Necklace- Read the story and be ready to take on a roll. 
* Root word sentences- You should be done with your sentences we had 45 mins in class to work on them as well as your journal prompt. 

 

Writing:

Finish your writing journal prompt if you didn't finish in class.

* Interactive Reader chapter 2 Lesson 1.

* Rewatch (0- 7:30)  Bill Nye Plants youtube video if you don't have at least 10 thoughtful notes not just a grocery list. Only if you did not do this while we were watching the video in class.

Just reminder. We have a busy next two days. It is very important that you use all of your time wisely in class. Below is a list of things that need to be done by tomorrow.
 
Cell Structure is due tomorrow ( this is an IB project, solely done in class with your partner) and teams.
 
Brainpop videos (4 videos in all) you should be ready to give me a score tomorrow.
 
Chapter 1 keynote ( due by tomorrow) you can take the vacation if you like. However, I prefer you finish it in class by tomorrow so you can enjoy a nice long break. 
 
Math Brochure Not due until December 2nd...You should however be almost finished since out goal was to finish before the Thanksgiving Break. 
 
Cell study guide is optional, However, you need to know the information before taking your Chapter 2 test. Your test will cover Chapter 1 and 2 the test is schedule to be on  December 10th. 
 
Research- Thank you for giving me the name of your disease you would like to research. When we return we will work on collecting data. If you like you can go to the library and check out a book on your disease you will be required to have one printed resource. If you have access to a research journal this is also an acceptable form of printed information. 
 
 
HOMEWORK-
Be on task with the above in class assignments. If you feel that you did not maximize your time to your best ability, then work on the above assignments.
 
Reading Log- Make sure you read for 30 mins. 
 
Reading Practice Pages- Finish the pages we discussed in class. Remember that we will grade them and have a reading test on Fear Place tomorrow as well as a spelling test.

Please remember that your writing must be a complete thought and be at least 12 sentences in length. Each sentence should be detailed.

*Journal Prompts were completed in class. However, please keep up with your son or daughter's progress by asking them to bring home their journals. " Imagine that you are a new Disney Villain 
 
* Reading Log- Students should be reading for 30 mins a day. This is 20-30 pages a day. Each student has been assessed to make sure the book they selected is a Just Right Book. We have discussed how to time themselves and use their fluency to monitor how focused they are in their independent reading. Please remember students also read in class for 30 mins. 
 
*Math we are reviewing fractions adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and re-exploring concepts by creating a Fractions brochure. Assigned today in class students were given 70 mins in class to work on this project. They will also be given 3 more math class periods to work on this assignment. This means students will have a total of 280 mins (4 hours) to work on their brochure in class. They will be expected to work on it for homework for 20 mins a day. I will monitor their progress daily. 
 
Science: Study guide textbook packet pg 5, 6, 7, (homework) In class worked on our Keynote and took a brainpop video on Cells. 
 
Social Studies: None.
