OSWALT ACADEMY OFFICIAL WORLD SCHOOL FOR INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME
Stanley G. Oswalt Academy, a K-8 school in the Rowland Unified School District, is an authorized world school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme, an international curriculum designed for students aged 3 to 12. Oswalt has been authorized in the PYP since September 2011. We completed our self study in the spring of 2015, were visited by representatives of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) at the end of 2015, and now await word from the IBO regarding our re-authorization.
All staff at Oswalt receive professional development training through the IBO, and continue to receive yearly professional development, through the full support of Rowland USD. This allows teachers to deepen their understanding and knowledge of the Primary Years Programme, as well as develop and provide meaningful inquiry-based curriculum, while guiding students toward their own learning.
Oswalt Academy became the 27th PYP school in all of California. Each year, more and more schools around the world are becoming authorized IB schools. Schools applying to offer the PYP program must begin implementing six transdisciplinary themes of global significance that allows students to “step up” beyond the confines of learning within subjects areas, and work toward becoming global learners.
